Dog Clothes: Crazy or Practical?

Everyone has seen Paris Hilton with her pocket sized pup dressed in diamonds and fur. The reactions vary from laughter and adoration to disgust. So is it crazy or practical to dress up your dog?

Why make clothes for your dog? Dogs are like humans in that they react to the sun and cold. These clothes provide protection from the elements. Most people don’t have the type of funds that Paris Hiltons does so making homemade dog clothes may have some advantages.

If you are creative and think dog clothes are fun you can choose from many fabrics and designs. You can custom fit clothes to your dog and protect them from the elements. One element to consider is that fleas and bugs get on our dogs and you cannot spray them with toxic chemicals. If you want to spray the fabric of the dog clothes this will help provide a barrier against fleas and ticks.

Humans express themselves with their clothes so why not let their best friends do the same? It is important to remember that dogs cannot remove their clothes and jackets by themselves. When you design the clothes consider the weather and make breathing openings so the dog does not sweat. Some dogs will hate the clothes. If they seem overly annoyed don’t force it on them. Most dogs get use to them easily but no one wants to make their furry friends miserable.

Halloween is coming up. This is a fun time to be making clothes and costumes for your dog. You could even match them to your costumes to make a complete statement.
