You want to be sure you have the minimum amount of necessities to start making candles if you are going to give it a try.
Unless you use the double boiler method, never melt wax on the stove in anything other than a melting pot. The next piece of equipment is a thermometer. You will need a pour pot to pour the melted wax into the molds. Also needed is a scale to weigh the wax, and a hammer to break up your wax. The supplies also needed are: wax for making candles, dye for the wax, wicks, fragrance oils, and containers. For the wax, there are three different types of waxes to use: paraffin, soy, or beeswax. Choose the one you would like or try all three to see which one you prefer. Candle making is a great hobby, but, if you’re a beginner, get the minimum supplies and try it out to see if you like it before you spend a lot of money on your supplies. If you find out it’s for you, then you can do all sorts of things with your candles. You can also try making your candles dripless. There are lots of sites that you can go to and read about making dripless candles. Always make sure you have a proper candle holder or plate to put your candle on to burn so you are burning your candles safely.
Candle making, if you decide to get started on this project, can be a wonderful hobby. You can do everything yourself after having learned the basics of candle making, or you can purchase candle kits of all kinds.
