Sew Purses for All Your Outfits

Purses are the perfect accessory for your outfits and they don’t have to be expensive to make. You can create purses that are businesslike, glitzy and glamorous. Even though you can’t wear a wild fabric for a dress or shirt, you can use it on a purse to compliment the outfit and make a statement. You don’t need a lot of skills to make a purse. You only need basic sewing skills. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can hand stitch your item. You can use a basic pattern and alter it, and you can have a closing with a strap, snap, zipper or Velcro.

It is best to wash your fabrics before cutting them out and sewing them together. To make the fabric you use for your purse stiff, you can use a fusible interfacing. You will want to lay your pattern out and pin it to both the fabric and the lining. Place the right sides of the fabric together and sew around the sides and bottom. You will also sew this with the lining. Make sure to leave a fourth of an inch of seam allowance. Turn the fabric so the right side is on the outside and then place the lining into the fabric. Then all you have to do is sew the lining in and then sew the two halves of the purse together.

You will want to find handles that will work for the purse that you are sewing. You can make handles by stringing beads onto a heavy wire and forming it into a half circle. Attach the handles or strap onto the purse according to the directions. Embellish your purse with beads, lace, bows and buttons. Use your imagination to create a one of a kind purse.
